Ebonyi State government led by Governor David Umahi has been called to sign into law the Open Government Partnership (OGP) State Action Plan (SAP) and Implementation Plan developed by Ebonyi State OGP Steering Committee with support from United States Agency for International Development Nigeria State Accountability Transparency and Effectiveness (State2State) Activity.
The co-chairman representing the non-state actors in the State and a member of the OGP steering committee, Mr Ajah Oliver made this call in Abakaliki the state capital during a one-day quarterly progress review meeting on the open government partnership (OGP) implementation plan.
The meeting was organized by USAID Nigeria State2State Activity to review progress on the implementation of the OGP in the state.
Oliver further appealed to Governor Umahi to also consider signing into law the developed action and implementation plans. He stated that both were critical requirements for the OGP implementation to commence effectively.
He noted that the documents which were before Governor Umahi's table awaiting his signature were submitted last year.
His words: "We are calling on the Ebonyi State Government through the Executive Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi to sign the OGP State Action Plan and Implementation Plan that were developed last year so that OGP implementation can commence effectively in Ebonyi State", he said.
The co-chairman also stressed that the essence of having the OGP State Action and Implementation Plans officially signed was to deepen good governance, transparency, and accountability and foster effective citizen participation in governance.
"So it is made to see that citizens take part in governance and affairs of the state," he stated.
