The Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Prince Okechukwu Odono has called on the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to focus more on tackling the security challenges facing the nation as he takes over governance from President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
He also, urged the Ebonyi State governor-elect, Francis Nwifuru to focus on human capital development as a way to complement the good work of the outgoing Governor David Umahi, in the state.
Odono made this known while speaking with newsmen at his residence at Ezzamgbo junction, some hours before the commissioning of the Ezzingbo/135 dualized road by the outgoing governor David Umahi on Friday.
According to him: "I believe that the incoming administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do better. In terms of security, the government did their best, but you know that Nigeria is a very big country. I, therefore, call on the incoming administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to curb the insecurity within the country.
"He should do more on security, then put things together. This is because the insecurity in the nation is getting worse. I know him (Tinubu) when he was the governor of Lagos State. He did well. I believe that Tinubu who is coming in as President, will look into security problems very well. He should tackle the insecurity in the nation.
The Chairman, Odono further stated that there are no longer communal clashes in the council since he assumed office eight months ago.
"In Ohaukwu Local government area, we have done very much to tackle the communal clashes and insecurity we met, when we assumed office eight (8) months ago. Before now, there is an inter-state communal war between Ngbo and Agila communities, Ukwagba and Ezza.
"For the past 8 months, I was in office, there have been no killings, even that of the Agila in Ado LGA of Benue state and Ngbo in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State. The only challenge we have is that of the Ezza's and Effium crisis that we met on the assumption of office. We have done everything within our power to make sure we have peace in that area. But in other areas, there is nothing like communal clashes again.
"We have set a border peace and conflicts resolution committee, that was chaired by the former commissioner and chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Mr. Sunday Inyima. We charged the committee to ensure that there is no longer insecurity or communal clashes in the Council, and to make sure that there is absolute peace and order in the Council.
He narrated how the youth's restiveness, especially cultism was combated in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
"We have a security group and a peace committee, which before now, I was one of them but when I took over as the chairman of the council, I made them more active by giving them a sienna bus, to make their work very easy. This security group have been doing very well, and I tell you, for the past three years now, there is no record of a cult clash in Ohaukwu LGA.
"We have encouraged the Youths to say 'no to cultism'. I have empowered lots of youths and I believe that many of them are doing very well. You will no longer see or hear anything like cultism in Ohaukwu LGA.
"As I talk with you now, many of them have changed and while some have travelled out of the state. Everybody is now living in peace in Ohaukwu Local government area and you can hardly hear of cult clash" he stated.
