The President of Amalgamated Ngboejeogu Youths (ANY) Mr Mike Odo has called on Nigerian leaders to work towards the restoration of the nation's dignity through a responsive approach to governance with genuine regard to the values of public and civil service.
Mr. Odo who stated this in his Workers Day Goodwill Message pointed out that "every job and effort deserves respect and recognition adding that disregard and neglect to workers amount to retrogression in any given system. He noted that workers are the live-wire of every society.
The youth leader who is also a legal practitioner observed with dismay the unfortunate circumstances of the public and civil servants who attend the same market as the rest of other members of the society but have very lean and/or limited resources with all the expectations to give quality training to their children and advised the handlers of the Nigerian government to review upwards the workers' salary since they are also major stakeholders in nation building and have equal family responsibilities with other members of the society.
Mr Mike Odo further frowned at the recklessness of the youths who make themselves available for political thuggery and other social vices and advised the Nigerian government to "take positive steps to discourage laziness among the youths. He equally expressed displeasure over the misguided measures for revenue collections in our localities especially in Ngbo where such actions have led to all manner of chaos among the youths.
"We express displeasure on the use of misguided and irresponsible youths in the collection of market tolls and government revenue in our markets. Engaging the services of hardworking and responsible youths to serve government interest will help in correcting the psyche of our youths today. Amalgamated Ngboejeogu Youth wants to see hardworking and responsible youths taking the pride of place in government and business space instead of the current situation that encourages hooliganism and discourages hard work," he said.
