The Director General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed on Saturday warned the serving Corps members against appearing in indecent dress and altering their uniform during his familiarity visits to them at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, MacGregor College, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The DG also urged the Corps members to observe the camp rules, noting that he had directed security agencies and the NYSC officials to arrest any of them who abuses the scheme's dress code.
He said the Corps members must imbibe a regimental spirit, stressing that the camp orientation exercise was planned to inculcate leadership and entrepreneurial skills in them as the future leaders of the nation.
"You are here to imbibe regimentation life in you. Everything you do here is being regulated, and the essence is to prepare you to become the leader of the nation.
"Whatever you see happening in the camp is deliberately made to prepare you to become a good leader in the future," the NYSC DG asserted.
Ahmed charged the Corps members to embrace opportunities which would boost their intellectual and economic initiatives but advised them to shun any form of social vices or use of social media to promote hatred and other inimical inclinations.
He further urged them not to relocate from Ebonyi to another state, but to settle down and face their service year for the nation with a full spirit of dedication, commitment and selflessness.
Speaking on the 50th anniversary of the NYSC, the DG urged the general public to be consistent in mentoring the serving Corps members in their various communities and expressed confidence that assenting to the NYSC Trust Fund bill would make the scheme stronger.
Earlier in her speech, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Bamai Mercy Dawuda thanked the DG for visiting the camp to know how the Corps members and camp officials are fairing.
She explained that a total of 1029 Corpd members of the 2023 Batch A Stream II were registered and inducted by the NYSC for their orientation course in the camp.
The Coordinator lamented the obsolete nature of some infrastructural facilities in the camp including the camp buildings, health clinic, electricity, and lack of operational vehicles, among others.
She informed the DG of the good conduct of the Batch A Stream II Corps members since their arrival in the orientation camp.
