...Joins Wike, Akpabio, others to bid farewell to Tinubu after 2day working visit to Rivers State
By Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki.
The Senator-elect of the Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Barrister Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has enjoined his colleagues, the Senators-elect across the country and particularly those from the Southeast geopolitical zone to put a strong alliance with the ambition of Senator Godswill Akpabio to become Senate President at the 10th National Assembly.
He made this call on Thursday while interacting with journalists at Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital during a two (2) working day visit of Nigeria's President-elect, Bola Tinubu to the State.
Nwebonyi in a press release by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Valentine Nwori, argued that Senator Akpabio as a ranking Senator, two-term former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, former Minority Leader of the 8th Senate, former Minister and a great in-law of Ndigbo is not only qualified for the coveted position but also a trusted charismatic leader, who will help to launch the Southeast zone into the political mainstream of Nigeria leadership and governance, where Ndigbo will be rewarded and compensated appropriately.
The release further read: "Chief Nwebonyi insisted that what the leaders of the Southeast geopolitical zone needed now are strong alignment and proper negotiations from leaders of other zones to fasten the actualization of our dreams of producing a President from Igbo extraction and taking a proper place in the scheme of things, saying that Senator Akpabio if supported and voted in as number 3 citizen of Nigeria will assist Ndigbo greatly because of his accommodating spirit and love, he has for Ndigbo which prompted him to have married, our daughter from Enugu State.
"Barrister Nwebonyi reiterated that the time for political lamentation or self-pity is gone, that power is not given, but rather taken and the best strategy to take power in Nigeria's polity is by allying with other tribes and zones.
"He quoted President Muhammad Buhari and the incoming President Bola Tinubu as the most recent leaders, who had formed strong alliance between the South and North and achieved electoral success respectively."
"According to him, "If there is any other time for us leaders to deepen our alliance with other zones, it is now and it begins with Senate Presidency.
"We should work assiduously to deliver Senator Akpabio as the Senate President and expect reciprocation from other zones to see that the position of Deputy Speaker Federal House of Representatives emerged from Southeast at present and president of Nigeria in the nearest future.
"Nwebonyi further stated that a nationalist like his mentor, His Excellency, Chief Engr. David Nweze Umahi, the executive Governor of Ebonyi State is as qualified as Senator Godswill Akpabio, if not for the standing rules of the Senate in the formation and election of its leadership."
Nwori recalled that after the conclusion of Tinubu's two-day working visit to the Rivers State, "Governor Nyesom Wike led other distinguished Nigerians, including but not limited to the frontline contestant of the Senate Presidency, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom State, the Senator-elect for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Chief Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi to bid heroic farewell on the President-elect at the popular Port Harcourt Airport."
