An investigation by the NATIONAL PANEL revealed internal scrabbles within the All Progressives Congress (APC) family regarding the allocation of a defence ministerial position to the 2023 presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Senator Rabi'u Kwankwaso.
According to the Vanguard, the growing speculations that President Bola Tinubu is considering appointing Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, as the Minister of Defence in his new government have continued to unfold.
The recent development seemed to be more known to the public after Kwankwaso met with Tinubu at the State House in Abuja a few weeks ago.
It is believed that their discussion revolved around Kwankwaso’s potential involvement in the impending administration.
An investigation revealed that Kwankwaso, who ran as the flag bearer for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the February Presidential election, may indeed be chosen as the Defense Minister.
A reliable source, speaking to our correspondent also disclosed that there is internal strife within the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the allocation of ministerial positions.
“Based on what I know, the President’s team will consist of 20 powerful special advisers who are likely to wield significant influence. They may become the influential inner circle.
“The APC is currently facing intense infighting, with some factions supporting former Kano governor Umar Ganduje. However, Tinubu appears to have aligned himself with the Presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“Regrettably for Ganduje, he has lost his grip on Kano State and has consequently lost relevance. As a result, Kwankwaso stands a good chance of being appointed as the defence minister," the source said.
Meanwhile, as the official list of ministers from Tinubu is eagerly awaited, sources within the presidency and the All Progressives Congress leadership have hinted at the possibility of certain persons, including Kwankwaso assuming roles in the present government at the centre.
