The unquenchable joy that breeds in the atmosphere of Ebonyi state following the announcement of Dr Uguru Chukwuma Leonard as one of the commissioners in Ebonyi state by His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru was greatly commendable.
It is of no doubt that our highly performing governor of Ebonyi state His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, a man of great vision, a passionate leader and the man after God's own heart, whose only business in politics is *Development* is interested in developing Ebonyi state at all cost. No wonder his first move was to recruit 195 health workers in the state to boast the workforce in our health institutions.
The appointment of Dr. Uguru Chukwuma Leonard is a clear indication of the interest of our God-given governor to use the best brain in the state to run his government which will inadvertently turn to massive development and economic growth and stability.
Dr Uguru Chukwuma Leonard, a multiple award-winning Senior Lecturer at Ebonyi State University (Ebsu), a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), a member of the Chartered Institution of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), a member Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), a member Certified Institute of Cost Accountants of Nigeria (CICAN), a member National Institute of Industrial Administrators (NIIA), a member International Research and Development Institute (IRDI), a Philanthropist, a Community Leader and the former Bursar of Ebonyi state University, etc. was born into the family of Chief Uguru Nwaji (Oke Nchi egbu Akpuru) of Okpuitumo Unuphu, Amagu Community in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State Nigeria, on 10th May 1976.
Komputa, as he was mostly called by his friends attended Ebonyi State University (Ebsu) where he bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in the year 2003; followed by a Masters of Science (M.Sc) in 2009 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2015, all in Accountancy.
He attended his Secondary School at Army Day Secondary School. Abakaliki (1989 - 1992) and Urban Secondary School, Okpaugwu Abakaliki (1992-1994) while his primary education was at Nkwagu Primary School, Abakaliki (1983 - 1988).
He is happily married to his beautiful wife, Mrs Vivian Ngozi Leo-Uguru and the marriage is blessed with lovely children.
His professional competencies include Auditing, Taxation, Accounting, Administration, Management Consultant, and Policy Formulation among others.
Just like Peter Drucker said, Leadership is lifting a person's vision to high sights, raising a person's performance to a higher standard, and building a personality beyond its normal limitations. Dr. Uguru Chukwuma Leonard has lived most of his life in building others and he is remarkable for his innovative ideas mixed with ventilated proactive measures in ensuring that all under his tutelage gain sufficient knowledge in the field he lectures, this singular act gained him much reputation not only in the university world but also in society at large.
On human capital development, Dr Uguru has given jobs to 16 university staff (8 university lectures inclusive), 5 bank staff, 1 Pension Fund Administrator worker and many others. He has assisted many of our youths to gain admission into universities and as well help others financially who are interested in establishing businesses. Numbers of students are currently in his scholarship scheme.
In community service, he single-handedly graded a 5-kilometre road from Nkwegu market to Okpuitumo Unuphu village in 2018. He also completed the construction of 3 culverts in 2020/2021 in the same village.
He is a devoted Christian and has held several positions of trust in the catholic church.
His appointment as a Commissioner will bring excellent innovation and a creative attitude to governance in Ebonyi state.
