Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Chief Francis Nwifuru has placed a ban on unauthorized motor parks, loading and offloading along the roadside within the Abakaliki metropolis.
The State Commissioner for Works and Transport Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam made the pronouncement during a meeting with the Association of Mass Transit Operators in Abakaliki, the State Capital
The Commissioner who ordered transporters operating in the illegal areas to immediately relocated to the State-approved central park to enhance the transport sector in the State, added that the Ministry's task force team which would be constituted soon will not spare anybody going against the State Government directives.
He urged the people to always keep their environment clean by cleaning up blockade drainages in their various parks for easy flow of water and throwing waste bins where the State Ministry of Environment would easily pick it for more productivity in the State transport system.
He further urged the people to cooperate with the Ministry to achieve the State Government standard, adding their welfare remains the utmost priority of the present administration.
According to him, a task force team will be constituted, the central park must be in use, and there will be no more roadside parks. With the help of my Ministry and SSA on transport all your challenges will be a thing of the past"
"Ensure you clean all blockade drainages in your different parks to enable water to be flowing appropriately and throw waste bin where the State Ministry of Environment will come and be picking it up easily"
"If you keep your environment clean it will be convenient for your passengers," he said
On his part, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Hon. Fredrick Nwogbaga assured his preparedness to tackle the challenges confronting the people while urging them to exercise patience and cooperate with the Ministry and remain supportive of the policies and programmes of the State Government to achieve the people's charter of need manifesto and reassured them that their problems would be a thing of the past in a short while.
The chairman of the Association of Mass Transit Operators Ebonyi State Branch Mr Nwankwegu Augustine appealed to the State Government to provide them with adequate security, and gate for the safety of their passengers and property. He also urged the Government to electrify central parks to improve their means of livelihood.
Meanwhile, the meeting attracted the HOD Ministry of Transport Mr Anene Nwankwo as well as members of AMTO who came in their numbers.
