Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru says it would observe the statewide environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday 1st July 2023.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Victor Chukwu announced this on Sunday in a press release made available to journalists in Abakaliki Capital City.
Chukwu said that the sanitation exercise would take place in the state between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
He warned Ebonyi residents to be keeping their surroundings clean; saying there would be no movement on that day till the sanitation exercise ends.
His words: "This is to inform the general public that, there will be a State Wide Sanitation Exercise in Ebonyi State on Saturday, 1st July 2023, between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
"Accordingly, all the Residents of the State are required to keep their Compounds, drainage/Gutters and Surroundings clean.
"Also, there will be no Human or Vehicular Movement nor Sporting Activities of any kind during the period of the Exercise, except those on essential duties like; Health Officials, Security Personnel and the Press, who must show valid means of identification.
"Residents of the State are further informed that defaulters will be arrested by the Security Operative and Ministry of Environment Staff and prosecuted by the State Environmental Laws.
"All the inhabitants of the State are enjoined to assist the Ministry of Environment to keep the entire State Clean and Green at all times for the benefit of everybody."
Recall that this would be the first sanitation held in the state since Governor Francis Nwifuru took over from his predecessor, Chief David Umahi on 29th May 2023.
Also, recall that the new Environmental Commissioner on the assumption of his office assured that the State would be tied up without any further delay, saying Governor Francis Nwifuru led administration cherishes environmental hygiene.
