The leadership of the Ebonyi State Chapter of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) said during the weekend that it has noted the report making rounds on social media which indicated the defection of Chris Adol Awam to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Recall that Adol Awam was the 2023 NNPP governorship standard bearer in Ebonyi State but has defected to APC recently because of his alleged crisis rocking his former party.
However, the NNPP State Chairman, Solomon Chukwu in a press release made available to journalists yesterday In Abakaliki, described the defection of Adol Awam as stale news.
The State party Boss noted that Adol Awam left the NNPP to APC on the eve of the 2023 governorship elections, saying his members were not disturbed about their former gubernatorial candidate's lonely movement to the APC
"It is laughable that Mr Adol Awam whose total score in the 2023 governorship election in the state is less than 400 votes, has begun to brag of leaving our great party with over 2,000 persons. Where did he manufacture the numbers with?
"Ebonyi NNPP is intact and her structure in the 171 wards,13 LGAs and at the State level are standing firm," Chukwu declared.
He said, "The leadership of the APC and Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State are advised to distance selves from Mr Adol Awam, whose stock in trade is transactional politics with zero integrity.
He maintained that "Mr Adol Awam is running away from being expelled from the NNPP for his inhuman treatment of the members and insubordinate activities.
"He bought his gubernatorial ticket on credit, but he still owes the NNPP over 11 million Naria, because his bounced cheque of 5 million Naira, has not been cleared till today.
"He instigated a crisis and disrupted our party's zonal meeting at Enugu where he mobilized his political thugs to attack the stakeholders of the NNPP in the State. These are just a few of the many sins of the so-called Prophet Adol Awam, and his option is to run for safety under the ruling APC."
Ebonyi NNPP Stakeholders including the State Coordinator for Senator Rabi'u Kwankwaso's Presidential Committee, Hon James Nwite and the 2023 Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi Central District, Hon Benjis Otubo, among others, subscribed to the declaration of the party chairman that Adol Awam ran out from the party to escape his unavoidable expulsion.
The duo said the NNPP leadership both at State, Zonal and National levels have found Adol Awam culpable of his false allegations of 78 million Naira fraud, which he levelled against the State party chairman, Solomon Chukwu, and other baseless indictments.
Otubo who is the State NNPP Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee further alleged that Adol Awam had been served a letter of summon before he would be fired by the party leadership.
"Adol Awam is running out from NNPP because of his many sins, he knew his hands are not clean and he had to seek asylum in the ruling APC, inferred.
