Ahead of the Imo gubernatorial election on November 11, the Labour Party, LP leadership has concluded its plan to remove the incumbent governor of the state, Hope Uzodimma at the polls.
LP said it has put in a strategy of reconciliation among aggrieved party leaders in the State.
The newly inaugurated LP state chairman, Calistus Ihejiagwa, stated that the purpose of the reconciliation is to ensure the defeat of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, in the upcoming governorship election on November 11.
Ihejiagwa stressed that the party’s doors are now open for all members willing to work towards the success of the party in the elections.
He expressed the party’s determination to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to remove Uzodimma from office, accusing him of misrule.
“We have begun the reconciliation process of bringing back all our leaders and members into the fold. All our members who have genuine reasons would be given due attention.
“We are committed to taking over the Imo State government house. APC has brought pain and suffering to the people of the state. We are genuinely engaging everybody who needs to be talked to. The ultimate goal is for the Labour Party to take over the government," he said.
During the inauguration of the State Working Committee at the party secretariat in Owerri, the state capital, on Sunday, Innocent Okeke, the LP South East Zonal chairman, urged the committee members to focus on strengthening the party across the 305 wards in the state.
Okeke highlighted that the Labour Party is driven by the masses and its chances of winning the governorship election hinge on its level of acceptance by the electorate.
He emphasized that the party has a strong candidate in Athan Achonu and that the people of the state are prepared to entrust their mandate to the LP candidate, based on the party’s manifesto.
