...Commends members' appointment, others

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents' Chapel Ebonyi State has called on Ebonyi citizens both at home and in the diaspora, to support the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, irrespective of individual interest or political party affiliation, for peace and overall development of the State.
The Chapel members made the call on Wednesday after their congress at their Secretariat, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
In the communique signed by the Chapel's Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor and the Secretary, Nabob Ogbonna, the union also commended its members for their professional and patriotic conducts especially during the last general elections.
According to the communique which was drafted by the Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee - Mr Chukwuemeka Opara, the Secretary - Edward Nnachi and a member - Amarachukwu Egwuagha, the Chapel noted with joy that such a show of maturity and discipline by its members reflected positively on their firm resolve to uphold the tenets of Journalism profession in the discharge of their professional duties in the State.
The Chapel however congratulated Governor Francis Nwifuru on his victory at the polls and subsequent successful swearing-in as the 4th Executive Governor of Ebonyi State.
It assured Governor Nwifuru of its avowed cooperation and partnership in disseminating the policies and programmes of his administration.
Part of the Communique read: "The Chapel commends His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, on the pedigree of individuals he has appointed to help him drive the policies and programmes of his administration, especially for giving 80% of his appointments so far to the youths.
"The Chapel notes that now that the Governor has made the youths the leaders of today, by fully integrating them into governance and making them the fulcrum of his administration, the youths on their part, should endeavour not to disappoint by ensuring that they live up to the tasks entrusted on them.
"The Chapel particularly lauds the Governor for appointing Dr Monday Uzor and Dr Boniface Nwankwo who are members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists into his government as Chief Press Secretary and Special Assistant (SA) on Documentation, respectively. The Chapel notes that their appointments are well deserved, and charges them and other new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them.
"The Chapel further pleads with the Governor to appoint more members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State, into his government. This will accordingly, solidify the bond existing between journalists and government in the state.
"The Chapel also calls on Ebonyi people, both at home and in the diaspora, to support the administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, irrespective of our personal interest or political party affiliation, for peace and the overall development of our dear State."
The Chapel also congratulated the new Speaker of Ebonyi State 7th House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa and other members of the House, for their successful inauguration; assuring of its preparedness to partner with them for effective reportage of its legislative businesses.
The union equally congratulated the newly inaugurated National Assembly members from Ebonyi, especially the immediate past Governor of the state, Chief David Umahi, on their successful inauguration and however, charged them to legislate for the good and upliftment of Ebonyi people and the entire Nigerians.
The chapel expressed its sadness over the death of Dr Kingssley Nworie, a former Secretary of the NUJ Ebonyi council and a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors. It described the death as a huge loss to journalism in the state and Nigeria while commiserating with his family, colleagues and friends.
