NATIONAL PANEL saw on Thursday that waste dumps are no longer cleared leaving everywhere with a pungent odour when strode around the Abakaliki, the State capital.
In interactions, some of the residents, Mr Francis Obiajulu, expressed worry over the ugly development.
Mr Francis Obiajulu, a pat medicine shop owner described the development as worrisome and stated that a dump site opposite his shop has been abandoned for over one month scaring customers away from his store.
Mr Obiajulu requested the new State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to rise to duty to save the urban residents from disease breakout occasioned by the careless littering of wastes.
"If you go round the town, you will see that all the dump sites in all the streets are no longer cleared every two days as it was before now.
"We understand that the transition in government must have been the reason for the development of which contractors and workers who used to do them are empowered by the former Governor, Engr David Umahi.
"It will be highly appreciated if the new administration led by Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru swings into action and arrest the situation as waste is now carelessly dropping even along the busy street," he recommended.
Also, a fashion designer at Calabar Street lamented over the health implication of the abandoned waste and cited her health failure which she attributed to the long time evacuation of the waste.
Further, Mrs Nnenna Obasi, a trader, Miss Nwoche Blessing and Mr Obinna Nwofoke, begged Governor Nwifuru to introduce measures to arrest the ugly situation.
When contacted by the Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor on the matter, he clarified that the state government has issued a directive to the concerned ministry to uphold the regular cleaning up of the state without further delay.
