Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate suspension of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
A statement by the Director (Information) in the Office of Secretary of Government of the Federation (SGF), Willie Bassey, stated that the President directed Bawa to hand over to the most senior personnel of the anti-graft agency immediately in other to ensure unhindered investigation of the activities of the commission.
Bawa had last week visited the Presidential Villa where he briefed the President on the activities of the anti-graft agency. The former anti-graft czar however refused to speak to the media after his audience with the President.
Abdulrasheed Bawa is the fourth Executive Chairman of the EFCC. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, on February 16, 2021, and confirmed by the Senate on February 24, 2021.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from the office of Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
