Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered the sealing of the Secretariats of the 17 local council Secretariats of Plateau State.
The order arose from the suspension of Chairmen and Councillors of the 17 local councils by the Plateau State House of Assembly (PSHA) to pave the way for the investigation of the activities of the councils.
The PSHA had on June 1, 2023, announced the suspension of the local councils, saying that the suspension followed the inability of the Councils to submit records of their income and expenditure for investigation.
The suspended council chairmen and councillors were elected in 2021 under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the then-ruling party in the state.
The newly elected governor of the state, Caleb Mutfwang had last week sworn in Transition Committee Chairmen for the 17 Local councils of the State following their suspension of the elected council chairmen.
