Traders in Ebonyi have urged the new governor of the State, Chief Francis Nwifuru to provide the citizens with potable water and prioritise rural development.
The chairman of the foodstuff dealers in Ebonyi, Mr Chidi Umeh made the plea while interacting with journalists on the expectations of the traders from Governor Nwifuru's led administration in his office, Abakaliki, the State capital.
He commended the recent appointment of Ebonyi youths by Governor Nwifuru and however, advised him to channel his administration weight towards the development of the hinterlands of the state.
He noted that the past administration led by former Governor Martins Nwanchor Elechi had constructed two water schemes located at Ofereke in Ikwo LGA and Okawa in Onicha Council Area of the State but only needed to unique technical touch before reticulating the water to Ebonyi citizens' homes for use.
Umeh further lauded the State Governor for bringing youths into the business of governance and noted that such development has challenged them to work in synergy with the elders to give the best service to humanity.
Umeh who rated the strides of the new administration in Ebonyi high especially the plan to recruit medical personnel in the 13 general hospitals across the state, also pointed out that the government should pay more attention to rural electrification and rural road network linking to the ring roads to ease transportation of farm produce to the major markets in the urban areas of the state and beyond.
He described water reticulation as the top need of Ebonyi residents and advised Governor Nwifuru's administration to pay special attention to it, as such would help reduce the scarcity of potable water during the dry season and as well, curtail the break of cholera in the State.
Umeh equally appreciated the governor for his full spotlight on the security of lives and property of Ebonyi residents and however, called for the construction of the road leading to the Abakaliki regional market and public toilets in the area to help in controlling open defecation in the State.
