Senator Egwu stated this during the weekend at his Umuebe country home in Ohaukwu L.G.A of Ebonyi, where he was welcomed and celebrated by his constituents for having completed his two tenures in the Nigerian Senate.
He thanked his constituents and sundry admirers for their prayers and support which according to him, led credence to his successful stay in his immediate past office and even when he served as governor of Ebonyi State and Nigeria's minister.
He noted that his political feats were facilitated by the grace of God, and commended the PDP faithful in the state, for their affection for him since the formation of the party in 1998.
"We started this party called PDP with the Liberal Convention in 1998. Yes, Liberal Convention gave birth to the PDP, that very day, it was at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja, and of course, all other parties merged. I was the leader of the Liberal Convention in Ebonyi State, and after the merger, we were told to move to our various States and start working for the PDP.
"It was under the party (PDP), I contested for the governorship position, and we were twelve candidates in the race and by the grace of God, I emerged as the first governor of Ebonyi State. Also, in the second tenure, I succeeded by the grace of God, from there, I became minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the same grace gave me a chance to become a two-term Senator under the PDP.
"So, there are no conditions that will make me leave the party that has made me who I'm today. I will continue to be in the PDP because PDP has been so gracious to me and I have no reason to leave the party.
"I appreciate all Ebonyians here for your unwavering support for me. I want to thank the Izhi people in particular for their love and support especially their stakeholders who are here. I thank also the Ohaukwu people, and the organisers of this occasion, who have done what I never expected," the Senator said.
Egwu though declared that the just concluded 2023 general elections were not free and fair, but urged the government in power to lead with a human face.
"So I'm appealing to the present government to give our people a healthy environment to ensure that businesses thrive. Let's play the politics of Wawa, not Agbaelu people.
"Even though we are in different parties we should understand that we are one people in Ebonyi State.
"The last election was not free and fair, but I leave everything for God. Let's play politics with God's mind. Politics is not bad but only human action makes it looks as if it's bad."
The two-term former governor recalled that Ebonyians came from very poor backgrounds and however prayed for the liberation of the state especially in the areas of education and advised the new administration not to burden the citizens of the state with over-taxation.
