The salaries of public sector workers will be reviewed to mitigate the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy, the Senate President declared.
It could be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had previously declared the removal of the subsidy during his inaugural speech on May 29 this year.
Tinubu's declaration has since then, made the pump price of petrol to be surging across the country.
However, during a meeting with Ekiti Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, in Abuja, Akpabio defended the subsidy removal, stating that Nigeria would not have survived the next few years if it had remained in place. He also mentioned that the salaries and wages of workers would be adjusted to ensure they receive a living wage.
Akpabio praised the dedication and commitment of the representatives from Ekiti in the 10th National Assembly, affirming the Senate’s collaboration with Ekiti state for the benefit of all Nigerians. In response, Governor Oyebanji expressed his support for the Senate’s accomplishment.
