*Declares war against open defecation

Chief Okechukwu Nwangwuta, popularly known as Senator yesterday emerged as the village head of Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village, Izhi Unuphu Community in Abakaliki local government area of Ebonyi State.
He, therefore, has declared war against open defecation in the town.
Nwangwuta, made the declaration Wednesday morning while interacting with journalists in his compound, Abakaliki, the State capital.
He commended the natives of the town for their support and assured them that his leadership would embark on an aggressive campaign to promote environmental sanitation and cleanliness to assist the current administration in the state.
He described Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village as one of the metropolitan towns of the Abakaliki council area housing the state's new government house, Central Police Station (CPS, international market, mechanical villas, rice mill industry, among other developmental clusters.
He declared that sanitary esprit must be pursued by the residents beginning from the community leaders and stakeholders to guarantee healthy lifestyle, peace and unity among the community members.
The community leader called on the landlords and residents to ensure their respective quarters have toilets to discourage open defecation as he further warned against reckless littering of waste in the town.
While assuring the community's unwavering support for the present state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, he said, his people had felt disappointed that the immediate past administration led by David Umahi did not keep its promise of appointing Special Assistants to the governor and Commissioner from the town.
He however commended Nwifuru on his style of appointments, saying the governor has begun to show that he has the interest of Ebonyi people at heart, especially the downtrodden and youths.
He warned youths from his community to be law-abiding, thereby shunning all forms of social vices including in-take of hard drugs and idleness. He assured of leading by example, stressing that the village would be a spectacular of the peaceful co-existence, unity and progress.
Former head of the community, Chief Samuel Emeka Uguru congratulated the new village councillor and advised him to carry all the villagers along, assuring him of his steady support. He also urged the villagers and residents of the town to give him all the necessary support to deliver his mandate while in office.
Uguru equally commended Governor Nwifuru's administration and assured him of his support; noting that he had begun well in his current office.
