An Ebonyi journalist and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Abakaliki, Mrs Ijeoma Peter Nwante has emerged as the National Financial Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN.
This is the first time Ebonyi gained a seat in the National Executive Council of SWAN since the creation of the State in 1996 following the election held at Krisdera Hotels, Omoku, Rivers State.
Mrs Nwante was elected unopposed during the election which produced Mr Isaiah Benjamin from Kaduna State as the President to steer the leadership of the Association for the next three years.
The Ebonyi state journalist is the only female official among the present executive members of the association.
Interacting with journalists shortly after taking the oath of office, the Financial Secretary of the Association, Mrs Nwante commended the members of the association for their overwhelming support which led to her election.
She assured the members of the association of serving them by example, noting that accountability and transparency would be her watchwords while in office.
Earlier, the Chairman of Rivers State Chapter of SWAN, Sarah David expressed joy over the privilege given to the state to play host to the event.
"I humbly welcome you to Omoku, the administrative headquarters of the oil-rich Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government area of Rivers State. It gives us great joy to host this August gathering of the top echelon of sportswriters across the country."
She also commended the courage of Mrs Nwante for her decision to be the NEC member of the association and urged massive support from the other officials to deliver her mandate successfully.
"I also commend the only woman contesting Ijeoma Peter Nwante, who is going unopposed as I passionately appeal to the incoming executives to pamper her and give her all the support."
