The Executive Chairman of Edda local government area of Ebonyi State, Prince Ekuma Nkama Chima has lambasted the state youth's organization "Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front" for kicking against the appointment of the former governor, Senator David Umahi as the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It could be recalled that Senator David Umahi was appointed by President Bola Tinubu, and has been successfully screened by the National Assembly.
However, the Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front had in a statement signed by its President and secretary general; Prince Nelson Igboke and Comrade Nwekeoyo Darlington rejected Umahi's appointment as minister.
The organization which petitioned President Bola Tinubu, demanded that the Ministerial appointment given to the former governor, Umahi, be withdrawn and given to another prominent son of Umuekumenyi, which comprises Ebonyi Central and North senatorial zones.
The youth group described the ministerial appointment given to Senator Umahi by President Tinubu as a threat to peace, Unity and justice in Ebonyi state, adding that it is the turn of Umuekumenyi to produce Minister and not from Ebonyi South, which according to them, have been holding the position for over twelve years.
Still, the chairman of Edda LGA, Prince Ekuma Nkama Chima who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, while responding to the petition of the Youths' organization to President Tinubu, described them as jobless youths who want to destabilize the relative peace, unity and progress existing between the three (3) senatorial zones of the state.
He said: "We don't want these few jobless youths, who are under something, because I strongly believe that Umuekumenyi can't oppose the former governor, Senator David Umahi's appointment as minister.
"Few people who maybe, are the haters of Umahi have decided to come in the disguise of 'Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front' with this kind of movement to oppose him (Umahi). I don't believe that they are from Umuekumenyi. Before now, we don't base appointments on whether you are from Ebonyi North, Central or South senatorial zone. The position we rotate is governorship position and not on Ministerial appointments" he stated.
The chairman, Chima however, applauded the cordial relationship existing between the state governor, Francis Nwifuru and Senator David Umahi, and warned that people should desist from trying to cause a breach of peace and unity in the state.
Chima further extolled Governor Nwifuru, for relating cordially with the chairmen of the thirteen (13) local government areas, increasing salaries of civil servants and promoting peace and order in the various communities of the state, that are rocked by communal clashes.
He, however, thanked the governor, Francis Nwifuru for giving staff of office to four (4) traditional rulers and demonstrating readiness to construct 2-kilometre roads and build bungalows for all traditional rulers in the state.
