Governor Francis Nwifuru has assured the serving Corps members in Ebonyi of their adequate welfare and security in the state.
Nwifuru pledged this Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch 'B' Stream 'II' Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, old MacGregor College in Afikpo in Ebonyi State
The Ebonyi governor represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Richard Idike noted that his administration has made proper security arrangements to ensure the corps members safely discharge their duties in the state.
"Let me assure you of adequate welfare and support during your service year. Proper security arrangement has also been made to ensure that you safely discharge your lawful duties here in Ebonyi State. We will also continue to uphold the gesture of appreciating and rewarding in a very special way those of you who may wish to distinguish themselves during your service here in Ebonyi State," Nwifuru said.
The governor called for collective support towards building peace in Nigeria and thus described the NYSC as a vital platform for promoting national unity and integration in the country.
He commended the corps members on the report of their disciplined conduct and enthusiastic participation in all the training activities after swearing in the orientation camp. He however expressed confidence that the corps members would sustain their good conduct in their various places of primary assignment in the state.
"It cannot be argued that within the period of your stay here, you
must have observed that NYSC orientation camp reflects a true
State of Nigeria and it is an important platform for promoting
National Unity and Integration. It becomes my conviction therefore that your initial apprehension and prejudices will disappear for a better understanding of the diverse cultures and ethnic inclinations of our great country and the reason why we shall remain one united Nigeria.
"Dear Compatriots, the next stage of the service that you are embarking on later will be certainly challenging. You will be
posted to the nooks and crannies of Ebonyi state for your Primary
Assignment and will be assigned sensitive responsibilities; but I
do not doubt that the camp training has prepared you adequately for the task ahead.
"I therefore enjoined you to contribute your quota; to enhance the betterment of your host community in particular and Ebony State at large. Let me once again inform you that NYSC remains the hallmark of National Unity and Integration and you are urged to uphold and sustain it for the progress and prosperity of our dear country.
"Do also improve yourselves on the good training and skills you have been exposed to while on camp to become job creators rather than looking for elusive jobs.
In her address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Nasamu Olayinka Diana disclosed that the corps members were taken through a series of activities such as Para-Military Drills, Citizenship and Leadership training, Language studies, Lectures, Skill Acquisitions and Entrepreneurial Development training during the orientation course.
The camp training activities, according to her, were designed to prepare the corps members for the service year. She expressed conviction that, the new corps members having completed their orientation course are now fully equipped to go into the nooks and crannies of the state as agents of change and development; charging them to give their best while in service for the betterment of the state and the country at large.
