From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakiliki
A lecture at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Ikwo (AEFUNAI) In Ebonyi state with the faculty of medicine, Dr. Casimir Ifeanyi yesterday unveiled his expression of interest to contest for the post of President in the forthcoming Medical Laboratory Scientists, MLS of Nigeria election.
This came at the heel when the leadership of Nigeria Medical Laboratory Scientists, South East zone had unanimously endorsed Casmir as their sole candidate in the Election, scheduled to be held in November 2023.
Casimir who had served the association at the national level as Publicity Secretary, made this known in Abakilik, the Ebonyi state capital on Monday.
He pledged that the myriad malevolence against medical laboratory scientists in both federal and state health facilities, and the deficit in the employment ratio would be addressed under his administration if elected.
The hopeful presidential candidate, further assured his colleagues in the 36 states of the federation including Abuja of his resilience and plans as the 16th president to create professional opportunities for the teeming unemployed laboratory Scientists to gain employment in both federal and state health facilities.
He however stated that regular accreditation of health laboratories essentially in both federal and state-owned institutions would be initiated to ensure adequate laboratory services to Nigerians.
According to him, the failure to have round pegs in a round hole in the leadership of medical laboratory scientists of Nigeria is the curse on the association and we need a paradigm shift to succeed.
To fix this, he insisted that it wouldn't cost the association anything but their courage to reject power play and personal politics which has taken centre stage at the expense of growth.
"We need a national president who is grounded in the association's struggle, a scientist who is schooled in the political craft of Nigeria's Health industry.
"On that note, the myriad of the malevolence against medical laboratory scientists in both federal and state facilities, the deficit in employment ratio among our unemployed colleagues and commenced accreditation of laboratories would be addressed under my administration.
I will also make sure that the directive from the Federal Ministry of Health towards having regular accreditation of both federal and state-owned health institutions commences under my administration.
"And that is why I have made myself available to inform you of my expression of interest for the post of president in the forthcoming medical laboratory scientist's election in November this year and I can do it if you all would vote for me", he asked.
Earlier, Mr. Alo Clement leader of MLS, Ebonyi State Chapel who expressed confidence in Dr. Casmir, described him as a fearless colleague who can lead the association to a promised Land.
