The Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma has declared open a two-day training workshop for newly recruited medical personnel in Ebonyi State
Declaring the workshop open at Re Meritona Hotel, Mile 50 Abakaliki, the Commissioner said that the training aimed to get the newly employed health workers acquainted with the rudiments of the job and encouraged participants to listen attentively to enable them to carry out their duties diligently.
While he advised them to ask questions for better understanding, he revealed that the Ministry would commence supervision after the training and urged the participants to put into practice what they learned to avoid disciplinary action.
Dr. Ekuma said, "he (the Governor) has graciously approved your employment so you should pay back by being dedicated to your duties and as you all know, the Health sector is not like other sectors. You should know that here we handle life and as we handle life, we don't want to lose any life. So, you should not joke with any life".
Commissioner Ekuma poured encomiums on Governor Nwifuru for approving the training and outlined other achievements made by the present administration in the health sector.
Contributing, the Director of Medical Services who is also the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Charles Alike described the training as the first of its kind and admonished participants to conform to moral and ethical standards to achieve maximum results. He advised them to embrace teamwork to enhance their performance and to always go to their seniors for solutions whenever there is a challenge.
Earlier in his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Healthcare, Dr Sabinus Nwibo expressed the readiness of the State Government to make their salaries be at par with the Federal workers and enjoined them to reciprocate the kind gesture by showing commitment to their job to justify their pay.
On their part, the Chief Executive and Hospital Administrator, State Hospital Management Board, Dr Ekoh Joseph, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharmacist DDrMoses Okoro including the Provost College of Health Ngbo, Nwankpuma Stephen enjoined them to take their job seriously and emphasized the need for them to live close to the hospitals where they were posted to stressing that it would cut cost and enable them to provide adequate healthcare to the rural people. They maintained that their complaints would be taken to the appropriate quarters.
The Resource Persons were the representatives of the Head of Service, Mrs. Isioma Arunne as well as the Civil Service Commission, Mr. Nkwuda Chukwudi and they harped on the rules and regulations guiding the civil/public service. Some of the areas they delved into were insubordination, misconduct, seniority, annual evaluation reports, and absence from duty without permission among others.
In a vote of thanks, one of the participants, Mrs. Ogwogu Rachel thanked the Governor and the organizers of the training for the employment cum orientation and promised that they would put in their best to achieve the desired result.
