The former House of Assembly candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Maduabuchi Akam-Alo, who contested for Ebonyi North East State Constituency in the last 2023 general election, has denied accusing Governor Francis Nwifuru and his predecessor, now the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi of alleged 70 million naira bribe scandal.
It could be recalled that Prince Akam, a son to the traditional ruler of Nkaleke Achara Ndiebor Autonomous community in Ebonyi LGA, was recently quoted to have accused Governor Nwifuru and Senator Umahi, of allegedly framing him and convicted, for rejecting a 70 million naira bribe to step down his House of Assembly ambition for the All Progressives Congress, APC's candidate, Mrs Chinyere Nwaogbaga, in the last general election.
"On March 3, the then governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi called me on the phone around 11:00 pm, saying that I should step down for Chinyere Nwaogbaga and collect 50 million Nair.
"The following morning, the present governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru, called me and requested that I should see him in the evening. When I got there, Governor Francis Nwifuru said I should step down for Chinyere Nwaogbaga and collect 20 million cash Naira that night but I refused," also it stated.
It was gathered that Prince Akam-Alo was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of a 50, 000 naira fine by Magistrate Ngozi Ngele for alleged trumped-up charges, bordering on cutting a finger of one of his father's subjects, stealing and trespassing on the land.
However, Prince Akam-Alo who addressed newsmen in Abakaliki, denied issuing such a statement or authorizing anybody to make such allegations against Governor Francis Nwifuru and the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
The former PDP's House of Assembly candidate, Akam-Alo who recently regained freedom, said: "People can go a long way to destroy you, especially when they know that the future is bright for you. They want to tarnish my image. I didn't grant anybody an interview or authorise anybody to write or make such allegations against the governor, Francis Nwifuru.
"It may be people who felt that we are blocking them somewhere, that are trying to blackmail me. What happened during the last election should be bygone, and shouldn't be used to victimize anybody" he said.
He however, called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to ignore the allegation, urging him (Nwifuru) to be focused and deliver the dividend of democracy to the people of the state, by his chatter of need manifesto.
"When he (Nwifuru) was coming to contest for governor, people were afraid of him that he would follow the footage of the former governor, David Umahi, but he is different, especially with what he is doing now. He has done a lot of life-touching projects silently.
"We are thanking the present government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru for the various life-touching projects he has embarked on. I believe the governor will focus more on rural road construction and human capital development.
Prince Akam-Alo further urged the governor, Francis Nwifuru to accommodate opposition party members in his government, adding no society will grow without opposition: "Without opposition, the society won't have grown. What made us, support our candidate then, was because of the lots of betrayals we had in the past, when the governorship ticket was not given to Izzi man. But now Izzi man is governor, we will assist him (Nwifuru) to succeed," he asserted.
