Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has urged the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC to remain a veritable instrument for unity and other developmental drives across Nigeria.
Nwifuru made the recommendation during the induction ceremony of the 2023 Batch 'C' Stream "II" Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Old MacGregor College in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Prince Richard Idike commended the NYSC for having been a strong bond that binds Nigerians together amid myriad ethnic nationalities in the country.
According to him, the Corps members irrespective of their backgrounds and ethnicities, should be more committed to promoting peace and unity in the country during their one-year compulsory service to the nation.
In her speech, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Oladeinde Foluke advised the Corps members to take every aspect of the orientation course seriously by participating actively in all camp activities especially the Skills Acquisition Entrepreneurship for Development (SAED) programme.
The Coordinator also advised the Corps members to key into the SAED program for job and wealth creation.
She equally commended Governor Nwifuru-led government and entire Ebonyi citizens for their continuous show of love and support to the scheme in the state.
Recall that a total of 1820 Corps members comprising 896 females and 924 males took the NYSC Oath of Allegiance, which was administered by Ebonyi State Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene through his representative, Justice Niclas Nwode.
