Member representing Abakaliki North constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Victor Nwoke has urged the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to embark on aggressive employment of graduates and free scholarships to students to curb security challenges in Nigeria.
The lawmaker who made this known while interacting with pressmen in Abakaliki attributed the cause of insecurity in the country as a result of joblessness
He asked President Tinubu to speed up action in combating kidnapping, youth restiveness and other security breaches bedevilling the nation.
Nwoke who is the Chairman House Committee on Youth and Sports Development expressed disappointment over the soaring insecurity in Abuja, adding that the Nation’s capital, is becoming inhabitable.
“I have organized enlightenment programs for the youths of my constituents to educate them on how to harness both local and international scholarships. This scholarship intervention program is targeted at making the youths, not depend wholly on their parents, and shun crimes.
“Ebonyi state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru in its 2024 budget on education, has made a huge sum of money I'mm make sure that the welfare of the teachers and students (youths) are taken care of.
“These programs are aimed at making our youths overcome the challenges facing Nigerians, especially the issue of kidnapping, and restiveness.
"A good number of the youths don’t get jobs after graduation, but if they are trained in a good way, they will be able to travel abroad legitimately and become whatever is designed for them.
“They will not engage in crimes if they are properly trained and will not end up in prison as many of them do. I also urge the federal government as well as the state governors to give scholarships to pupils from primary to secondary schools. If the youths can be taught skills in various schools, it will help to combat all these crimes you are hearing about in Nigeria.
“Abuja the capital of Nigeria, is no longer habitable. All these crimes are the results of joblessness by the youths. I plead with the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the welfare of the citizens. When this is done, you will see a crime-free society."
The legislator also expressed the preparedness of the State House of Assembly to partner with Governor Francis Nwifuru to ensure that there is a massive development and raid the state out of all kinds of crime.
“We are going to give the governor all necessary support to ensure that the state moves forward. And any bill that is going to help the state, we ensure that such bill receives accelerated attention."
He urged Governor Nwifuru to improve the speedy construction of urban roads, especially at Nkaliki located close to the State Assembly.
“The state government should be faster in road construction because if you look around, you see that the Nkaliki and Igweokpu roads are part of the capital city. The roads are deplorable and I urge the governor to look into it,” Nwoke said.
