Senator David Umahi - Minister of Works.
Approaching the Ebonyi South Senatorial rerun, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi has warned the opposition parties against hiring political thugs to intimidate eligible voters on election day.
Umahi stated this at the weekend and declared that Governor Francis Nwifuru would resist any opposition party using thugs to disrupt the electoral activities come February 3rd, 2024.
The immediate past Governor of Ebonyi State, therefore, warned the opposition parties to stay clear of anything capable of hindering peace during the conduct of the February bye-election.
The Minister maintained that he would not fold his hands to watch the members of the opposition parties harass the APC faithful and supporters during the election in Ebonyi state.
It could be recalled that Senator David Umahi contested the 2023 general election for the senatorial position and won, but later resigned from the National Assembly position following his appointment as the Federal Minister of Works by the administration of President Bala Tinubu.
Umahi said: "When a lion gives birth to a lion, the new lion is stronger. Therefore, the opposition should not try using our official security to kill our people because they want to win the election.
"We are not here because the Senatorial aspirant is from the Onicha local government area. We are here to show solidarity with Mr President and the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru.
"You know am much older, therefore, all the people that provoked me from the south let them not try it with this governor (Nwifuru). If you brought thugs - people from outside the state to kill our people because you want to conduct the election, we will not allow it this time.
"No normal official security will be used to harass the government in power and it is not going to be acceptable to us."
