At least 230 Senior Secondary School Students preparing for the West African Examination Certificate, WAEC have received their fees from the Executive Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Barrister Chinudu Uburu.
Our correspondent reports that the beneficiaries of the free disbursement of the 2023/2024 WAEC fees by the Council Chairman were indigent students from the Ebonyi local government area.
Uburu said he decided to offset the WAEC fees of indigent students with over 6.2 million Naira following his love for education.
The Chairman disclosed that the payment of WAEC fees held at Ugbodo, the Ebonyi Council Headquarters, was singlehandedly carried out through the auspices of his newly established humanitarian foundation, known as "The Afunwa Foundation."
The Council Chairman said the disbursement of the WAEC fees was also his longing to complement Governor Francis Nwifuru's efforts toward ensuring that every child in Ebonyi State gets a basic education and a Senior Secondary School Certificate.
He explained: "The beneficiaries of this WAEC fees disbursement exercise were carefully drawn from the 13 electoral wards across Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State.
"The beneficiaries at least 230 of them are indigent students."
He further applauded the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru, whom he described as his role model for giving him the platform to serve his people.
According to Uburu, Governor Nwifuru's special love for education was one of the factors that motivated him to pay the WAEC fees to the indigent students who were carefully selected in the area.
The Council Chairman, however, advised the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and be good ambassadors of their respective parents by shunning bad companies and using the money for their WAEC payment, not diverting it to other projects of their choice.
He expressed his enthusiasm to do more to improve the welfare of the Ebonyi council people while fulfilling his campaign promises to them.
