A group, under the aegis of PRESCO old Boys Association Ebonyi state chapter, has at the weekend urged Governor Francis Nwifuru to facilitate the return of the PRESCO campus to the original owners, PRESCO.
The state chairman of the Association, Engr. Ben Okah made this known while speaking with newsmen, shortly after an enlarged meeting of the Association, that took place at his residence in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
He explained that the former governor, David Umahi who is now the minister of works, started the process of returning the PRESCO campus that was taken over by Ebonyi State University, EBSU, to the original owners, PRESCO, but stopped on the way, as a result of the expiration of his tenure in office.
According to him: "PRESCO as a school has produced many prominent men and women who in one way or the other occupied a highly placed position in the society, both in the military and civilian regimes.
"We have generals in the military both serving and retired. we have had a deputy governor both in Ebonyi and Cross River states. We have professors and important personalities in all professions in the society.
"PRESCO is the best school to attend. We are happy that we are meeting frequently to see how we can better the lives of students in PRESCO School. We have challenges which we brought to the government of Ebonyi State to assist us.
"PRESCO campus is now taken over by the Ebonyi State University, and we are working very hard to see if the premises of the PRESCO campus be returned to the original owners (PRESCO). It will help us to continue to groom our children.
"We have so many things we can do for PRESCO and the entire state, but we are disorganized by the takeover of the PRESCO campus by the state university, EBSU. We are asking the state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru to assist us in returning the campus to the original owners, PRESCO. The former governor, David Umahi already approved that for us" he stated
The associations' leadership, also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for the great step taken to revamp the educational sector, Agriculture, health, civil service, etc and for making lives better for the citizens of the state through his charter of needs mantra.
Responding, the national officer of the association Barr. Emmanuel Edeh Agba who is a director of socials, however, frowned at the takeover of the PRESCO campus by the state university, EBSU, and called on the state government to urgently facilitate the return of the PRESCO campus to the original owners, PRESCO, as approved by the previous administration led by David Umahi.
"PRESCO has been a great institution of learning from the early 60s to date, but the institution is losing its credibility because of challenges, especially the takeover of the PRESCO campus by the Ebonyi State University, EBSU.
Edeh Agba, however, revealed the preparedness of the association to embark on school debates, scholarship programs and skill-acquisition training
of students in PRESCO school, and called for the partnership of the state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
