The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC on Tuesday kicked off a two-day warning strike protest and heavily lamented the rising cost of commodities since the inception of President Bola Tinubu-led government in Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen in Abakaliki, the NLC State Chairman, Professor Oguguo Egwu accused President Tinubu-led government of introducing anti-people policies.
Oguguo credited the present economic crisis confronting the nation to the removal of petroleum subsidies by Tinubu immediately after his inauguration on 29th May 2023 and maintained that the policy is anti-democratic.
He explained that the labour force embarked on the protest to resist every government policy promoting economic hardship and insecurity across the nation.
The NLC State Boss also expressed concern over the government's delay in addressing the demands of Nigerian workers after bringing untold hardship to the country. He, however, opined that President Tinubu should resign if he lacks the leadership capacity to meet up with Nigerians' cravings.
"We are here to make our voice heard. People are suffering and we can't wait any longer. The government in power has subjected every family to poverty and pain.
"We are saying no to the government that brought hunger. We are saying no to anti people's government. We are saying enough Is enough.
"We cannot continue to tolerate the exploitation and maltreatment of workers and Nigerian citizens in our country. It is time for the government to listen to our demands and take action to improve the living conditions of workers across Nigeria."
Nigerian Pilot reports that thousands of the NLC members while protesting in the streets of Abakaliki, the State capital were chanting songs and carried placards with inscriptions," Tinubu end hunger now in Nigeria," Tinubu must resign, we are dying for starvation," and Tinubu should reduce fuel pump price to its original price.
Others read, "We saying no to the anti-people government in Nigeria," Say no to anti-democratic policies," Nigerians are dying under President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria," among others.
