All the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday called for “urgent initiatives involving all sub-national governments” to tackle the nation’s economic woes.
The PDP governors also demanded proactive action from the federal government on the economy, the naira fall, and state police during their meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s lodge in Abuja.
They restated their longstanding demand for the establishment of state police forces and however, called for appropriate safeguards to avoid any abuse or overreach by various tiers of government in the country.
The governors also expressed alarm over the falling value of the Nigerian Naira. The forum passed a vote of confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Iliya Damagum.
They further urged the NWC to put in motion the machinery for convening meetings of various party organs, including the National Executive Committee (NEC).
NATIONAL PANEL gathered that the governors of Oyo, Enugu, Taraba, Adamawa, and Zamfara with the deputy governors of Delta, Enugu, Adamawa, Plateau and Bauchi States were among others in attendance.
