The 2023 gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi, Chief Anayo Nwonu (Anatex) has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the State.
Nwonu who was a two-term member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives defected to the APC at Ebiaji, the Ezza North council headquarters on Thursday.
The former federal lawmaker defected to the APC alongside his thousands of loyalists including the sitting state Assembly lawmaker, Chikaodili Nome who was elected under the PDP platform and other members of the opposition parties from the area.
Nigerian Pilot reports that different political heavyweights, officials and members of the opposition parties have been dumping their parties for the ruling APC in Ebonyi since the state governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru's victory in the last general election was validated by the Supreme Court.
Speaking at the event, Nwonu said, that President Bola Tinubu's administration policy regards the economic revival strategies and exemplary leadership styles of Governor Francis Nwifuru motivated him to join the ruling party (APC).
He further described Nwifuru as a peace and unity builder whose leadership style has won him the support of the political generals in Ebonyi and assured the permanent victory of his new party, APC in the area.
The APC State Chairman, Stanley Okoro Emegha who received the defectors assured them of full accommodation.
Emegha urged the old members of the APC not to discriminate against the defectors but to work together with them for the betterment of the state and the country in general.
The event recorded the presence of the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House Assembly - Chief Chinedu Onah, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation - Engr Jude Okpor, other political bigwigs from Ezza Nation and beyond including the former member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Chief Lazarus Ogbee who advocated unwavering support for Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration in considering its people's oriented policies and projects since assumed office.
