President Bola Tinubu's government has responded following an incident where the Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, obstructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives from arresting former Governor Yahaya Bello.
In the statement issued by Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, it was emphasized that Yahaya Bello should surrender himself to the EFCC as the commission is legally empowered to invite or arrest any Nigerian for questioning.
The statement stressed the importance of not obstructing the EFCC in the performance of its constitutional duties, emphasizing that public officials, including those under investigation, should not impede the commission's efforts.
The Attorney General emphasized that the EFCC has the lawful authority to summon individuals for investigation, urging compliance with such invitations without hindrance to facilitate due process. The response comes after reports that Governor Ododo prevented Bello's arrest by escorting him away in an official vehicle.
