Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved the appointment of new 25 permanent secretaries.
The Executive Council led by Governor Francis Nwifuru made the approval of the permanent secretaries to fill in the existing vacancies in the state civil service commission.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Executive Council meeting held yesterday in Abakaliki.
The request according to Okpor, was made by the State Head of Service during the Executive Council meeting.
Okpor said the council has directed the State Head of Service, Dr Rita Okoro to commence the processes of achieving the same with a special emphasis on the state character system.
His words: "Following the request by the State Head of Service to fill in existing vacancies for the positions of permanent secretaries in the state civil service, the council approved the appointment of 25 permanent secretaries.
"The Council has therefore directed the Head of Service to commence the processes of achieving same with special emphasis on the State Character System."
Nigerian Pilot reports that the names of the 25 permanent secretaries and their respective areas of jurisdiction are yet to be publicized by the state government.
Meanwhile, the Council has set up a special committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Grace Umezurike in liaison with the State Scholarship Board, to interface with the embassies for having received an interim progress report on the foreign scholarship scheme from the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof Omari Omaka.
