President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and safeguard Nigeria’s unity, declaring that the nation will never surrender to forces seeking to destabilise it.
The President made the declaration while hosting religious and traditional leaders at an interfaith breaking of the Ramadan fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking during the gathering, Tinubu acknowledged the security challenges confronting the country but insisted that the government and security agencies remain resolute in their efforts to defeat insurgents and other threats to national stability.
“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated. They leave trails of blood in their wake,” the President said. “But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well.”
Tinubu also used the occasion to commend the role of religious and traditional leaders in promoting peace, tolerance and moral guidance across communities, noting that their influence is vital in strengthening national unit.
The President further reflected on developments in the country’s economy since he assumed office, stating that reforms introduced by his administration are gradually stabilising public finances.
According to him, the nation’s economy has begun to improve, with pensioners receiving relief and state governments better positioned to meet salary obligations
“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. All I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty,” Tinubu said.
“I can report that the economy has turned the corner. It is getting better. Pensioners are getting their relief gradually. We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy," he further stated.
He added that the Federal Government remains focused on long-term development, particularly in critical sectors such as agriculture and education, in order to build a sustainable future for the country.
Also speaking at the event, the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, commended the President for bringing together leaders of different faiths, describing the gathering as a symbol of national unity and peaceful coexistence.
He offered prayers for divine guidance and protection for the country and success for the President’s administratte.
Representatives of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Christian Association of Nigeria also attended the event, pledging continued support for efforts aimed at promoting peace, strengthening security and improving the nation’s economy.
Traditional rulers and religious leaders from across the six geopolitical zones were present at the interfaith gathering, reinforcing calls for unity and collective responsibility in addressing the nation’s challenges.
