Residents of Mbeke Ishieke Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State are set to experience improved telecommunications services following the approval for the installation of a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in the area by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The development came through the intervention of the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who facilitated the inclusion of the community in the NCC’s programme aimed at expanding telecommunications infrastructure to underserved and unserved communities across Nigeria.
According to an official communication from the NCC to the beneficiary community, Mbeke Ishieke has been nominated to benefit from the deployment of a Base Transceiver Station in collaboration with telecommunications infrastructure providers.
The initiative forms part of the Commission’s broader effort to expand Information and Communication Technology (ICT) coverage and strengthen digital connectivity in rural areas.
The project is designed to support the extension of both voice and data services to communities that have long suffered poor or non-existent network coverage.
It is also expected to promote digital inclusion, enhance access to information, and stimulate economic activities within the community and surrounding areas.
Speaking on the development, Senator Nwebonyi noted that the approval reflects ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities in Ebonyi State.
He emphasized that reliable telecommunications infrastructure is critical to socio-economic development, education, commerce, and security.
The senator assured constituents that he would continue to advocate for improved infrastructure and services across rural communities in Ebonyi North Senatorial District and the state at large.
According to him, no community should be left behind in the nation’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
Community leaders and residents of Mbeke Ishieke have welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited breakthrough that will address persistent network challenges and open new opportunities for communication, business, and access to digital services.
The installation of the Base Transceiver Station is expected to significantly improve network stability and coverage in Mbeke Ishieke and neighboring communities, bringing relief to residents who have endured years of poor connectivity.
