It was a galore of jubilation at Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village in Abakaliki local government area of Ebonyi State, as the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi flagged off a 1.5km road construction project in the area.
Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, on Thursday, flagged off the construction of a road connecting Central Police Station, CPS to Rice Mill and the back of the Dandilas Gass Station to the Mechanic site, Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village in Abakaliki metropolitan area.
The Senator said the road construction was among over 20km of road projects he attracted in his one year in office and has been spread to the villages and communities within his constituency.
He described the road construction as a part of his line-up projects for his constituents in fulfilment of his campaign promises to them during the 2023 election.
The lawmaker said the roads would be in a rigid concrete-based construction with machines, and completed before 12 months of the flag-off in modern technological standards.
Nwebonyi appreciated his constituents for voting him into power while enumerating his life-touching projects, especially on empowerment, including scholarships to indigent students, the building of houses for the less privileged people, distributions of farm inputs, cars, motorcycles, skill acquisition and training programmes for them.
According to him, "this road bearing Chief Emma Uguru Street transversing Dandilas Gas Station, Mechanic site and Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village which is over 1.5kms will be constructed on rigid concrete pavement of six inches using Chinese Technology for the construction of concrete road to ensure its smoothness and durability.
"I have, by the grace of God, surpassed all my campaign promises because I believe that leadership is a social contract. I came prepared to serve humanity; I didn’t just come to grab power but to set a precedence so that long after I had left the seat, I would be a reference point for other contestants of Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
"That is why I went to China to understudy their concrete road technology and discovered that it’s better to use machines instead of manual laying of concrete. Therefore, this project being handled by Clin Construction Company Nigeria Ltd will be a litmus test for concrete road technology in Nigeria. As I construct the road, I will add street lights and will soon commence another 1.5kms to jam rice mill and other environs.”
He urged the Ebonyi North people to continue to support the present administration in the state and at the national level and assured of more windfalls for them while in office.
The Senator extolled President Bola Tinubu for making available the projects, fertilizers and farm inputs which he already distributed to his constituents including the 365kms Ukwuachi Mbeke Ishieke Ebonyi -Abuja link road, among others.
The Head of Obegu Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu village, Ogbuefi Okechukwu Nwangwuta commended Senator Nwebonyi for embarking on the road construction, noting that its completion would enhance human and vehicular movement as well as the economic activities in the area.
Nwangwuta, with other stakeholders, including his predecessor, Chief Samuel Uguru, assured of the security of the workers and their equipment as they commenced work on the roads.
They pledged their unalloyed support for Nwebonyi, praying that God will always give him abundant grace, strength, sound health and wisdom to continue delivering quality services to humanity.
