Not less than 5,000 Ebonyi indigent people have benefited from the N25,000 cash conditional transfer initiative program of President Bola Tinubu-led federal government.
The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs Ann Aligwe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abakaliki during the seminar for the preparation of the 2024 Ebonyi Women's Day celebration.
Aligwe said each of the beneficiaries of the empowerment program would receive the fund for three months, amounting to N75,000 per person.
The Commissioner said, "The empowerment program was facilitated by the wife of Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Federal Ministry of Human Capital Development and Monitoring, courtesy of the Ebonyi first lady, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru.."
Aligwe further explained that the cash transfer was initiated to empower indigent people, especially women, and provide them with the financial support to start or expand their businesses.
She commended Mrs Tinubu for her commitment to women's empowerment and urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate her example.
She emphasized the importance of investing in women's economic empowerment programs as a means of reducing poverty and promoting gender equality in society.
Nnenna Njoku and other beneficiaries of the empowerment program commended President Tinubu's wife for her generosity, stating that the fund would go a long way in improving their livelihoods and helping them support their restive households.
