The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and lawmaker representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has synergized with the Chairman of Ado local government area of Benue state, Hon Sunny Oche, on the grading and rehabilitation of the road connecting Ebonyi and Benue states.
Nwebonyi's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Romanus Uzor, disclosed this in a press release.
According to Uzor, the Senator, in a letter addressed to the Council boss, sought his consent and collaboration for the construction of the all-important Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja link road, noting that it will boost economic prosperity in the area.
Uzor said the council chairman has expressly given his consent to this laudable initiative of Senator Nwebonyi and noted that the road, when completed, would open windows of opportunities for the two sister states.
"The Council boss further emphasized that the lofty initiative aligns with his commitment to open up rural roads, especially the Ebonyi-Benue link road. He commended Senator Nwebonyi for attracting the all-important road, which he said would boost economic activities and foster unity between the two brother states, adding that he would provide needed support to ensure the timely completion of the project.
"According to the release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ado local government area – Hon. Samson Otokpa, the grading and rehabilitation of the road linking the two sister states is through Isophumini, Ohagelode, Ugboenyim, Ndumbam, Nduidenyi and Onuebo villages through the Ijigban axis of Benue state," Uzor stated.
He recalled that Senator Nwebonyi, barely one month after his inauguration, had moved a motion of urgent public importance on the floor of the Senate on the need to construct the Ebonyi-Benue link road, which was conceived by our colonial masters around 1958.
"Heartwarming, the road has been captured in the 2024 budget of the Federal Government with its construction set to commence soon. The survey and design has also been completed. The correspondence between the two leaders serves as a handshake across Ado LGA and Ebonyi state towards the seamless take-off of the vital road project.
"Meanwhile, the indefatigable Senator-Nwebonyi has already flagged off the construction of over twenty kilometers of internal roads within the four council areas in Ebonyi North Senatorial District," he added.
