The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called on Nigerians to support Roxettes Motors in its mission to revolutionize the African automobile industry. He made this call while receiving Arch (Dr.) Kaycee Orji, Chairman/CEO of Roxettes Motors, at his office in the National Assembly.
The visit, which was part of Roxettes Motors' ongoing engagement with key stakeholders in Nigeria, underscored the company's commitment to advancing electric vehicle (EV) technology and sustainable transportation in Africa. Senator Abaribe, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, commended Roxettes Motors' innovation and dedication to building Made-in-Nigeria electric vehicles, describing the initiative as a game-changer for Nigeria's automobile industry.
A Major Step in Nigeria’s Green Energy Transition
During the visit, Senator Abaribe had the opportunity to test-drive one of Roxettes Motors' electric vehicles, after which he expressed excitement over its performance and the potential impact of electric mobility on Nigeria’s economy.
> “Everything is cool. This is Roxettes Motors' electric car—made in Aba and made for all of us in Nigeria. I recommend it to everyone.”
The senator emphasized the importance of supporting local manufacturers, particularly in the wake of Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy and sustainable mobility solutions. He assured that the 10th Senate is actively working on legislative frameworks that will strengthen patronage for locally manufactured products, particularly in the automobile sector.
> "No fuel, no diesel—just charge it and drive. As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, and with our transition to green energy, I strongly recommend this. I will also engage my colleagues in the National Assembly to explore legislative support for electric mobility in Nigeria."
Leveraging Power Sector Reforms to Support Electric Vehicle Adoption
As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Senator Abaribe is strategically positioned to drive legislative reforms that will enhance the development of Nigeria's power sector to support electric vehicle infrastructure. He noted that for EV adoption to thrive, Nigeria must address power supply challenges by expanding renewable energy sources, enhancing grid stability, and investing in charging infrastructure.
He emphasized the importance of integrating EV charging stations with Nigeria’s power roadmap, advocating for policies that will:
Encourage private-sector investment in EV charging infrastructure across major cities and highways.
Expand solar and renewable energy solutions to support EV users in areas with limited grid power.
Develop special electricity tariffs and incentives for businesses investing in charging networks.
Enhance research and development in battery technology and energy storage solutions to boost local innovation.
He assured that the Senate will work closely with power sector stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to green mobility, adding that EVs are a critical part of Nigeria’s energy transition strategy.
Roxettes Motors: Leading Africa’s Automotive Revolution
In response, Dr. Kaycee Orji expressed gratitude for Senator Abaribe’s endorsement, noting that Roxettes Motors' mission is to pioneer a new era of mobility in Africa by producing high-quality electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
He highlighted that Roxettes Motors' innovations align with global trends, as major economies are phasing out fossil fuel-powered vehicles in favor of clean energy alternatives. Dr. Orji reaffirmed the company's commitment to making electric vehicles accessible, affordable, and efficient for Nigerians, ensuring that Africa is not left behind in the global shift towards zero-emission transport.
The visit was further graced by Distinguished Senator Godiya Akwashiki from Nasarawa State and Senator (Prof.) Anthony Okorie Ani of Ebonyi South, both of whom expressed support for Roxettes Motors' vision and pledged to advocate for policies that will encourage local automobile manufacturing and adoption of electric vehicles in Nigeria.
National Assembly's Role in Promoting Locally Made Vehicles
As part of its broader economic development strategy, the National Assembly is working to introduce policies that will stimulate local automobile production, attract investment, and reduce dependence on imported vehicles.
Senator Abaribe acknowledged the challenges faced by local manufacturers, particularly in terms of infrastructure, government policies, and financing, and assured that the Senate will push for initiatives to encourage investments in local automotive production and create an enabling environment for businesses like Roxettes Motors to thrive.
With Roxettes Motors' growing presence in Nigeria and Africa, stakeholders believe that a strong policy framework and government support will drive mass adoption of electric vehicles, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a leader in green transportation technology.
The collaboration between Roxettes Motors and key policymakers in the Senate signals a significant step towards Nigeria’s automotive revolution. As the country embraces clean energy solutions, locally manufactured electric vehicles are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobility in Africa.
