Residents of Mgbom Na-Achara Autonomous Community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have strongly rejected reports by Sahara Reporters alleging that Brigadier General Igwe Patrick Omoke led an assault on an undercover police officer during a community meeting.
The controversial report, published by Sahara Reporters, claimed that the incident occurred on May 1, 2025, during a gathering to elect a new traditional ruler in the Mgbom Na-Achara Okposi area. According to the report, over 20 soldiers led by Brigadier General Omoke arrived in military vehicles, including gun trucks and an armored tank, and allegedly attacked Detective Stanley-Duke Omoke, leaving him hospitalized.
In a swift response, community leaders gathered to condemn the report as “false, misleading, and inflammatory.” A spokesperson for the community stated, “The allegations against Brigadier General Igwe Patrick Omoke have no basis in truth. Such misinformation is dangerous and threatens the harmony of our community.”
Residents of the community have called on the Ebonyi State government to intervene and take action against Sahara Reporters for what they term “fake news.” They expressed concerns that false reports can damage the reputations of respected individuals and fuel unnecessary tension.
“Our community has always been known for its peaceful coexistence,” said one resident. “We cannot allow falsehoods to go unchallenged. We demand that the government act swiftly to address this situation and protect the truth.”
The Ebonyi State government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations or the community’s calls for accountability. Meanwhile, Mgbom Na-Achara residents continue to insist on the need for accurate reporting to maintain peace and protect the integrity of their community.
