Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has hosted the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, for the groundbreaking of the N6.7 billion Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
This was a part of the governor's bold move to place Bauchi State at the forefront of Nigeria’s energy transformation.
The academy, strategically located near the Kolmani Oil Prospect—where commercial oil was recently discovered—aims to serve as a leading institution for energy education, technical training, and capacity development in the oil and gas sector.
Governor Bala described the project as a cornerstone of his administration’s development vision, anchored in the potential of Bauchi’s natural resources and youth population.
“This initiative was born out of a deep desire to equip our young people for the boundless opportunities and emerging challenges within the evolving energy landscape,” he said. “It is a legacy project that will transform not only Bauchi but the entire region.”
He acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari for initiating the Kolmani Oil Project and lauded the continued support of the Tinubu administration and Senator Lokpobiri, particularly in renewing vital oil licenses and pushing for energy-sector reform.
Minister Lokpobiri praised Governor Bala’s leadership and foresight, stating that the Federal Government views the academy as critical to developing the technical workforce required to sustain Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
“This is not just about building structures; it’s about building capacity and securing the future of Nigeria’s energy sector,” the Minister remarked.
The event drew dignitaries from federal and state levels, traditional rulers, energy experts, and community leaders. Governor Bala called on citizens to support the project, noting its potential to unlock Bauchi’s economic promise and position it as an energy hub in northern Nigeria.
When completed, the academy is expected to serve as a national model for technical education in the oil and gas industry, contributing to innovation, employment, and economic self-reliance.
