Despite heavy rainfall, thousands of Kwara residents turned out yesterday for the membership registration exercise of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a renewed wave of political engagement across the state.
The registration, which took place at ward levels across Kwara, saw people of various ages and backgrounds queueing patiently in the rain to participate in the ongoing political process. Observers noted that the large turnout reflected growing public interest in shaping the state's political direction.
In a statement issued following the exercise, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki commended the resilience of the participants, describing the turnout as a quiet but extraordinary demonstration of collective desire for change.
"It is easy to overlook these moments, but what struck me was not just the numbers, but the story behind them," Saraki said. "People are collectively yearning for change and for a future that looks different from the governance that they are experiencing today."
He urged more residents to seize the opportunity by registering at their respective ward centers, emphasizing that lasting change stems from everyday civic actions.
"The registration process is an invitation to become part of a larger, people-centred narrative that is still being written," he added.
The PDP registration exercise continues across the state in the coming days.
