Campaign for polio immunization vaccine has been kicked off in Ishielu LGA of Ebonyi State.
Flagging off the campaign, yesterday at Ntezi Ward in Ishielu LGA, the State Deputy Governor, Princess Onyemaechi Obila described the polio immunization vaccine as a significant stride towards enhancing public health.
Obila praised the Council Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, for her exemplary leadership and achievements in improving the health and general welfare of Ishielu's residents.
She acknowledged the crucial role local government plays in the health sector and highlighted the partnership between the state government and various health organizations.
"The efforts of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in prioritizing health care in Ebonyi State are commendable. We are here today to witness another landmark achievement in our health sector," Mrs. Obila remarked.
She emphasized the significance of the polio immunization initiative, stating, "It is imperative that we protect our children from preventable diseases, ensuring no child is left unvaccinated."
Expressing gratitude to health partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, she also recognized the invaluable contribution of mothers in promoting children's health and well-being. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure the health of our future generations,” she stated.
Highlighting recent achievements, Mrs. Obila noted, "We have launched the largest oxygen plant in the South, a testament to our commitment to saving lives and transforming health care in Ebonyi State." Her message was clear: the state government is determined to change narratives in the health sector through proactive measures and community engagement.
Echoing her sentiments, the Ishielu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, commended Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to advancing health care, citing initiatives such as the employment of health personnel and the modernization of general hospitals across the state.
“These efforts have made significant strides in combatting health challenges,” she said, underlining the paramount importance of immunization for vulnerable populations, particularly children under five and those with compromised immune systems.
"We are not just administering vaccines; we are actively fighting against infectious diseases and equipping our communities with the necessary defense mechanisms to safeguard their health," Agwu added.
As the vaccination campaign kicks off, both the Deputy Governor and the Council Chairman encouraged residents to take part by ensuring their children receive the much-needed polio vaccinations, reiterating that a healthy community is crucial for the state’s growth and development.
