A resounding wave of celebration swept through the capital city of Abakaliki on Sunday as Ebonyi State honoured one of its finest intellectuals and public servants, Professor Leonard Chukwuma Uguru.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development was recently elevated to the prestigious academic rank of Professor of Accounting, a milestone that has ignited statewide admiration and pride.
The celebration began with a solemn yet joyous thanksgiving service held at the Immaculate Conception Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.
The church was filled with family, friends, and colleagues gathered in spiritual gratitude for the academic and professional accomplishments of Prof. Uguru.
The day's festivities continued with a grand civic reception at Nkwegu Primary School, Amegu, in Abakaliki Local Government Area, which transformed into a hub of jubilation and admiration.
Among the dignitaries present were Chief Stephen Ebere Nwogba - Chairman of Abakaliki LGA, Chief Uchenna Nwamkpuma - the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor in his office, among others who led an impressive array of stakeholders from the academic, political, and entrepreneurial sectors. Their presence underscored the far-reaching impact of Prof. Uguru’s contributions to governance, finance, and scholarship.
Adding their voice to the chorus of commendation, the Nigeria Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Ebonyi State Chapter, released a formal congratulatory message to their esteemed Patron. In his statement, NASME Chairman Comrade Joseph Erish described the promotion as “a meritorious honour bestowed on a man whose life is defined by diligence, intellectual rigour, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence.”
He further emphasized that Prof. Uguru’s scholarly rise is a beacon of inspiration to both professionals and emerging entrepreneurs across the state.

Recall that Prof Leonard Chukwuma Uguru is an illustrious son of Izhi Nnodo Ekumaenyi clan, born into the family of Chief Uguru Nwaji of Okpuitumo Unuphu, Amagu Community in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi State Nigeria on 10th May 1976.
Uguru started his education career in 1983 from primary school till 2015 when he earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting before his elevation as a Professor in the same profession early this year.
