The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF) have joined forces in a dynamic partnership aimed at celebrating elite performances during the 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six.
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Abuja, both organisations pledged to sponsor and coordinate the “Player of the Match” awards throughout the duration of the prestigious tournament, which is set to take centre stage in Ikenne, Ogun State.
According to the statement issued yesterday by SWAN National Secretary, Ikenna Okonkwo, under the agreement, RSDF—known for its consistent investment in grassroots and women’s sports—will provide sponsorship for the awards across all matches. Each honour will feature a custom-designed plaque or trophy, a certificate of recognition, and potentially a monetary reward.
“This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to empower female athletes and promote excellence,” said Chief Dr. Paul Edeh, President of RSDF. “We’re also ensuring our brand is well represented across all award materials and will work closely with SWAN to handle logistics seamlessly.”
SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, lauded the collaboration as a bold step in the right direction for women’s football in Nigeria.
“This is more than an award—it’s a statement of encouragement for our women on the pitch,” he said. “It also showcases how strategic partnerships between the media and stakeholders like RSDF can elevate the women’s game to new heights.”
SWAN will oversee the selection of award recipients via a panel comprising independent sports journalists covering the tournament. The association will also lead the post-match award presentations alongside NWFL officials while promoting RSDF’s role across all media engagements and tournament reportage.
The MoU covers the entirety of the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six and is a testament to both SWAN and RSDF’s unwavering commitment to growing the visibility and quality of women’s football in Nigeria.
