President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will tomorrow, Saturday, May 31, commission the completed section of Phase I, Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The event will take place at KM 8 of the project in the Jakande Estate Area of Lagos State.
The Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, announced the commissioning in a statement issued on Friday. The project, which covers 30km of the 47.474km first segment of the coastal highway, was executed by Hitech Construction Limited.
In addition to the coastal highway, President Tinubu will also virtually commission other completed infrastructure projects across southern Nigeria. These include the dualization of the East-West Road (Eleme Junction to Ahoada in Rivers State), rehabilitation and expansion works on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Shagamu-Ibadan section), and the rehabilitation of the Alesi-Ugep section in Cross River State.
Other projects to be commissioned are the reconstruction of the collapsed Enugu Bridge at the New Artisan Market, the construction of a new bridge at Akpoha in Ebonyi State, and the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway (Enugu-Lokpanta section). Also listed are the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu Road, upgrading of a section of the East-West Road (PH – Onne Port Junction), and the rehabilitation and expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway from Agbara Junction to the Nigeria/Benin border.
President Tinubu will also flag off new projects, including the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Road, the Nembe-Brass Road, a section of the Enugu and Onitsha Carriageway, and the Abakpa Flyover in Enugu State.
According to Umahi, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope infrastructure development agenda. The project is aimed at expanding the transportation network, improving access to coastal communities, fostering regional integration, and stimulating economic growth.
