The immediate past member of the House of Representatives and former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Former Speaker Chukwuma Nwazunku.
The high-profile defection took place during the Echiaba Ward meeting at the residence of Amobi Nwofoke, Chairman of the party in the Ward, in Ugwuachara, Ebonyi LGA of Ebonyi State.
Nwazunku’s move was accompanied by other key figures from the PDP, including the party’s 2023 Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North, Emeka Otozi, the Ward Chairman in Echiaba, and numerous political allies.
Receiving the defectors on behalf of the State Chairman, Chief Patrick Orogbo, Chairman of the party in Ebonyi Local Government Area, congratulated them for their decision, pledging equal opportunities and inclusion within the APC.
Amobi Nwofoke praised the achievements of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Nwifuru, stating that his developmental strides have significantly weakened the opposition in the state.
In his remarks, Chief Nwazunku said that while he had physically remained in the PDP, his spirit had long departed from the party.
He attributed his decision to join the APC to the impressive accomplishments of Governor Nwifuru and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
