In what appears to be a subtle warning to dissenting voices within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has declared that the party remains a united front and will resist all forms of internal sabotage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the PDP’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, Mohammed dismissed reports of emerging factions and underground coalition talks as calculated distractions by political opportunists who fear the resurgence of the main opposition party.
“This party is not fragmented, and we will not allow any interest group to hijack our collective vision.
“All this talk of new coalitions or stakeholders’ movements is unnecessary. The PDP is the only viable platform with the experience and capacity to rescue Nigeria," he firmly stated.
In what many observers believe is a direct message to political figures rumoured to be plotting alternative alignments within the opposition, the Bauchi governor insisted that the PDP has moved past its internal disagreements and is now focused on reclaiming power at the federal level.
According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of Ambassador Umar Damagum has succeeded in quelling internal dissent and harmonizing the party’s various power blocs.
“The press statements and counter-press statements have stopped. What you’re seeing now is a coordinated effort to reposition the PDP. We will not allow outsiders—or insiders masquerading as stakeholders—to derail our momentum,” he said.
Mohammed reiterated that all arms of the party, including the Board of Trustees, National Assembly caucuses, and state chapters, are now operating in synergy, warning that the party will no longer tolerate undisciplined behavior or side meetings meant to undermine the national structure.
In a veiled reference to ruling party strategies. What they fear most is a united PDP. That is why they sponsor stories of crisis and defections. But they have failed," he added.
The governor urged members to remain vigilant and loyal, emphasizing that the party’s focus must remain on mobilizing Nigerians around a credible alternative in 2027.
“Make no mistake—we are preparing, and we are watching. The PDP will not be caught off guard again,” he concluded.
Many observers underscored the tone of Mohammed’s speech signaled a tightening of party ranks as the PDP seeks to prevent a repeat of the internal divisions that weakened its 2023 presidential bid.
